SHANG-CHI Movie in Development at Marvel Studios
Marvel Studios has been secretive about its post-Avengers 4 plans, but we have a few ideas about what movies are coming up. Films starring Black Widow and The Eternals are reportedly set for Marvel’s 2020 slate, while Moon Knight may get a movie too. There are also plans for sequels to Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, we have another title to add to the list.
A movie starring Shang-Chi is now in development at Marvel Studios. Wonder Woman 1984 scribe Dave Callaham, who was recently rumored to be doing a Marvel movie, is working on the script. This will mark the first Marvel movie with an Asian lead. The studio is looking at several Asian and Asian-American directors to tackle this one. This marks Marvel’s latest effort to increase diversity, both in front of and behind the camera.
In the comics, Shang-Chi is known as the “Master of Kung-Fu.” He is an expert martial artist, and he has affiliations with teams like the Marvel Knights and the Avengers. A Shang-Chi movie was part of Marvel’s early slate when it signed its deal with Paramount, but the slate obviously changed a bit. Now, the Master is officially heading to the big screen.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
