Warner Bros.‘ Suicide Squad sequel, titled The Suicide Squad, is shifting the franchise in a new direction, as it will introduce many new characters. Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and Amanda Waller are all returning. But otherwise, the film is expected to consist of an entirely new roster, including a character played by Idris Elba. Now, the film is looking to make another big addition to its cast.
WWE superstar-turned-actor-turned Internet meme John Cena is in talks to make his comic book movie debut with The Suicide Squad. It’s currently unknown who he will be playing. This is a role intended for Dave Bautista, who was widely expected to reunite with director James Gunn here. However, due to the actor’s schedule, he had to pass. While unconfirmed, the character may be Peacemaker.
Cena has made a lot of moves as an actor, most prominently in last fall’s Bumblebee. The Suicide Squad will be his biggest movie yet. Production is expected to begin sometime this fall. The film will hit theaters on August 6th, 2021.
