Welcome to a special SDCC-themed installment of TV News Bits. Here, we’ll be going over new characters joining Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, a hit Marvel show’s renewal, and two other shows promoting characters to series regulars. Supergirl Adds 3 to Cast At San Diego Comic-Con, Supergirl announced (via KryptonSite) the addition of three characters, following Sam Witwer‘s casting. Actress Nicole Maines will play Nia Nal/Dreamer, TV’s first transgender superhero. Nia is a new addition to the CatCo reporting team, and she must embrace her destiny as the superhero Dreamer. Welcome back to TV News Bits. Today, we have news on one of ABC’s Marvel projects, a premiere date for Cloak & Dagger season two, an update on FX’s Y: The Last Man adaptation, confirmation of more The Walking Dead, and casting for the next Riverdale spinoff. ABC previously ordered a pilot for a female-led Marvel series, from Wonder Woman screenwriter Allan Heinberg. Unfortunately, the network has passed on the pilot. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood Talks Landing SILVER & BLACK, Preparations and More
In addition to Sony’s collaboration with Marvel on Spider-Man: Homecoming (which may spawn a trilogy), the studio has been developing two more films based on Spider-Man characters. Venom, starring Tom Hardy, is scheduled to hit theaters next fall. Additionally, director Gina Prince-Bythewood is helming Silver & Black, which will unite the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat. The other day, producer Amy Pascal said that these movies will be “adjunct” to Homecoming and, thus, the MCU after all. Now, Prince-Bythewood talks about landing the gig and her preparation for it. ABC Moving Forward with Marvel Show About Female Superheroes from WONDER WOMAN Writer
Marvel TV has been growing bigger and bigger every year, but it originally began on ABC with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013. Since then, the two have collaborated on Agent Carter and Inhumans, which were both short-lived, while Freeform has Cloak and Dagger. But ABC has talked about bringing in a new Marvel series soon, specifically with a female lead. And now, it’s moving forward. Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg is developing an untitled Marvel series for ABC, which has given it a production commitment.
