HBO Orders WATCHMEN to Series, Sets 2019 Premiere
After years in development, HBO’s Watchmen pilot finally went into production a few months ago. Now, we know when the pilot – and the rest of the season – will premiere.
HBO has confirmed that Watchmen has been given a full series order. It will premiere sometime in 2019. No word on an episode count yet. In addition, the network released a plot logline from the series.
Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
Showrunner Damon Lindelof previously described Watchmen as an original “remix” of the source material. It’s not another direct adaptation; rather, it’s an original story that will be set after the comic. So, it’s basically a sequel, but they’re not calling it that.
