Supergirl has featured many different characters from Superman lore, such as
Jimmy James Olsen, Metallo, and the Man of Steel himself. Lois Lane will appear this year during the “Elseworlds” crossover event. But one character who has been absent is Superman’s arch nemesis, Lex Luthor. Well, that is finally going to change this season.
The CW has announced that Lex Luthor is set to appear on Supergirl this season. He will be a recurring character, and casting begins soon. However, he will not be in the “Elseworlds” crossover.
Executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller had this to say about the news. “We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain, Lex Luthor, to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season. We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since its inception and we’re excited to have him finally arrive. We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister Lena Luthor.”
Supergirl has prominently featured Lena, as well as mother Lillian. So, the Luthor family has played a key role in the series already, and now it’s bringing in its most infamous member. Lex Luthor has been portrayed countless times in live action. Most recently, Michael Rosenbaum played him on Smallville, while Jesse Eisenberg played him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
