Review: Action Comics #1000
One thousand issues. It’s a staggering number. Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster made his debut in the pages of Action Comics in 1938. Since that date, hundreds of writers, artists, editors, and other creators have contributed to Action Comics and have taken the Superman character in directions that Siegel and Shuster could not have even fathomed. Action Comics #1000 is the culmination of 80 years of the character that created one of America’s most unique art forms. Action Comics #1000 is both a reflection and a celebration of the Superman mythos from an all-star lineup of comic book creators contributing various short stories on Superman. Even if…

Review: BATMAN FOREVER Soundtrack
Some record executive at Warner Bros. must have finished off the last of the cocaine from the eighties that was in the office while he was coming up with the concept for this album. The Batman Forever (1995) soundtrack is a unique time capsule into how corporate conglomerates used their film and music subsidiaries to promote each other during the nineties. This record should’ve been an absolute disaster, but by some miracle it doesn’t wind up being half bad. The soundtrack sold almost as many copies as Prince’s Batman (1989) soundtrack. That’s largely due to the fact the artists featured on this album were at the top of…

Retrospective Review: BATMAN Soundtrack by Prince
Batman and Prince go together shockingly well. The Batman character and Prince’s music and public persona are complete opposites yet somehow Prince was able to make an entire hit album to go along with the 1989 film. Batman (1989) is a true testament to how talented Prince was. It’s been nearly thirty years since the Batman film and album were released. In the thirty years since dozens of superhero films have been released. Their success at the box office and their success with critics has overshadowed Batman to point where it has become an afterthought in most people’s minds. The Dark Knight trilogy has replaced the Batman films of…

Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 is the soundtrack for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 film. These songs are all featured in the film or in the trailers. In the world of the Guardians of the Galxy, these songs are all on Peter Quill A.K.A Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) mixtape. The music was personally chosen by director James Gunn. He has great taste. What’s great about the first and second Awesome Mix’s is that James Gunn used the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a platform for older songs and artists. Songs and artists that older generations forgot about and young people were clueless about…

Batman: Arkham City Review
*Also includes a review of the Catwoman DLC Batman: Arkham City (2011) is the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum and it takes everything from the first game and improves upon it. Arkham City also adds new elements that keeps things fresh and exciting. The game’s main storyline involves Batman getting imprisoned in Arkham City, a new supermax prison that was built in the aftermath of the first game. Arkham City is a walled off and rundown section of Gotham City where the city’s criminals are incarcerated (anybody who’s watched Escape from New York (1981) will be familiar with this scenario). The Penguin, Two-Face, and the Joker’s gang are…

Retrospective Review: Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1
The cover art from Awesome Mix Vol. 1, takes inspiration from Peter Quill’s Walkman. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 was released in 2014 and is one of the most unlikely successes in the history of movie soundtracks. This album includes songs that were featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) film or in the film’s trailers. Every song on this album was released in the 1960s and 1970s. The most recent song on this album was released in 1979. Most of the songs on this album were all popular on A.M. radio during this time period. The only two exceptions to this…

The cover for Action Comics #1000. Pencils by Jim Lee, inks by Scott Williams, and colors by Alex Sinclair When Action Comics #1 hit the stands in 1938, it forever changed the face of popular culture. It marked the debut of Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who singlehandedly started the superhero phenomenon. On April 18, Action Comic’s one thousandth issue will go on sale. DC Comics is pulling out all the stops for this event as they have announced on their official website that Action Comics #1000 will be a supersized hardcover comic book that will feature many writers and artists that have contributed to the Superman…

Retrospective Review: BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM
Batman: Arkham Asylum was released to critical and commercial acclaim in 2009. It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly ten years since Rocksteady Studio’s Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) was released. It’s still one of the greatest video games of all time and one of the greatest adaptation of the Batman mythos. The three games from the Arkham trilogy are the greatest superhero video games ever and no other superhero video games have come close to being as good. The plot of the game involves the player taking control of Batman as he attempts to stop the Joker, who has seized control of Arkham Asylum from launching a plan…

Retrospective Review: IRON MAN 2 (AC/DC Soundtrack)
AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 album successfully combined two popular brands. The Iron Man 2 soundtrack album was released in 2010 to coincide with the movie’s release and was supplied by Australian rock band AC/DC. This soundtrack is unique because it doesn’t contain any new material that was released up until that point. However, this is not a greatest hits record because several of their most famous songs like ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ and ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ aren’t featured on this album. It’s more of a compilation of songs from AC/DC’s storied career. This album contains fifteen songs. Some of the songs on this album are…
