Barbara Gordon has been a prominent figure in the Batman Arkham franchise, from the beginning of Arkham Asylum to the end of Arkham Knight. Oracle has been there guiding you through it all. Now she is taking center stage in the new prequel story add-on. Entertainment Weekly brings us our first look at Batgirl in the ‘Matter of Family’ DLC.
Entertainment Weekly had an interview with WB Games Montréal design producer, Justin Vazquez. Read some of his comments down below.
“We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment, playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker.” Vazquez said regarding the tone and feel of Joker’s Amusement Park.
Batgirl’s style is a combination of Batman’s brute strength and her computer genius, using her tech smarts gives her the ability solve puzzles and take down enemies. Vazquez goes in to more detail.
“Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine. Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give opportunities (to) do things that even Batman can pull off.“
Dual Play is a new gameplay system that features two playable characters. This new mechanic returns in A Matter of Family, when you team up with Robin to take on Joker and Harley Quinn. Vazquez says “Seeing these four iconic characters together at the same time will be a real thrill.”
The ‘A Matter of Family’ story DLC is available via Season Pass July 14th, and available for purchase July 21st for $6.99.
