Yes, Batman Kills Sometimes – But Should He?
So, recently my good friend Paul wrote a feature on why it’s okay for Batman to kill. It’s a great piece and shows both sides of the argument. However, I think we can go just a little bit deeper. Yes, Batman has killed villains and will, without a doubt, do it again soon, but should he? Finding The Bat’s Identity Batman has had a long 80-year comic book run and plenty of different adaptations by several writers. We should go back to the source. As Paul mentioned in the previous post, Batman killed in his first few appearances. The character was still new and was staying true to that pulp/gritty…

How Avengers: Endgame Ruined the MCU
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest franchise in the world. It has over 20 films, many of which grossed over $1B at the box office, and features many fan-favorite characters. The ending of The Infinity Saga was a worldwide event. The fourth Avengers film broke box office records, and nearly everyone on the planet saw this movie. Then, that was it. The story was done. A satisfying conclusion to a series we’ve followed for over ten years, but then Marvel decided to keep the train rolling. The story would continue past its climactic ending. Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are such monumental movies. They are the closest thing we can get to a modern-day…

Westworld is Returning to HBO for a Fourth Season
To the surprise to no one, the hit series is returning to HBO. Here’s what Casey Bloys, President of Programming, had to say. “From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” Bloys then added, “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.” The third season of Westworld debuted on March 15th with an eight-episode storyline. Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will return for the fourth season. WESTWORLD was created for television by Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy, who are executive producers…

Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 – Review
The DCAU lives on! We return to the world of Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures in a new comic series – Batman: The Adventures Continue. With writers, Paul Dini and Alan Burnett returning, does the series add any value to the legacy of Batman: The Animated Series? Let’s find out! The timeline of this first issue is a little confusing. Lex Luthor is the main antagonist of this story arc, but the Justice League doesn’t seem to have been formed. It’s likely in-between TNBA and JL, but some inconsistencies also make that confusing. Anyways, we see Batman patrolling Gotham City, and all seems fine. However, we’re…

Why The Lion King Sucks
The Lion King (1994) is a cinematic masterpiece. It created a world we all fell in love with, featuring iconic characters and crafted a majestic story that still hits you even if you’ve seen it 100 times. It accomplished all of this with a runtime clocking in under 90 minutes. Not only that, but its theatre show is one of the highest-rated productions on Broadway, making over eight billion dollars over its 20-year run. I can talk about the legacy of The Lion King and how it reshaped both animation and Broadway as we know it, but that’s a story for another time. Instead, we are talking about the most…

14 Shows to Stream While You Self-Quarantine
We all know best practice is to stay inside and avoid contact with people because of the COVID-19 pandemic. These are challenging times, and we all want to do the right thing. But fear not readers, I am here with a list of 14 shows that you can binge-watch while you’re stuck inside. We are only focusing on the five major streaming platforms for this one (sorry Harley Quinn). Links to trailers and clips for…

Onward Review – Working Hard but Hardly Working?
Disney/Pixar’s latest adventure is an interesting one. This is their first non-sequel film in three years (Coco being the last), and it takes place in a fantasy world. It’s always a blast to see what Pixar does with their films, and thankfully, Onward is another solid outing. We follow two teenage brothers, Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley (Chris Pratt), as they receive a wizard’s staff giving them the power to see their deceased father one last time. The staff is missing a magical gem and that’s when the real quest begins. The lead characters in Ian and Barley are both really strong, and play off of each other well. Pratt…

MY HERO ACADEMIA: HEROES RISING Review – Not Very Plus Ultra
The hit anime series, My Hero Academia just released its second feature film. Heroes Rising is not canon to the story of MHA, and this is very important when viewing, so just keep that in mind when watching. Does the film go Plus Ultra or does it crash and burn? Well, let’s discuss (no spoilers). The story takes place after the Overhaul arc (season 4) in the anime. Deku has his shoot style and all of class 1-A has their provisional licenses. The setting is pretty interesting. A small town recently lost their hero, and U.A. High School sends their students to monitor the area. At least until a pro is…

Avatar: The Last Airbender and Eastern Philosophy
Avatar: The Last Airbender is easily my favorite series. It has fantastic world-building, unforgettable characters, and a terrific soundtrack. One thing I feel often gets overlooked is its use of eastern philosophy and religion as a whole. Faith is a huge part of the series, and today we’re going to be shedding light on why it’s so important. The Avatar What is the Avatar? Well, to keep things short, Wan (the first Avatar) had his life force merged with Raava (the spirit of peace and light). Wan is the human host for Raava (he’s her Avatar). The title makes sense now, huh? Wan is a Jesus-esque character; he’s half-man, half-god.…
