Will Shazam Meet the Justice League in Future DC Films?

It’s no secret by now that Shazam! takes place in DC Films’ shared universe, which includes Justice League and more movies. While Shazam! is said to be a standalone story, fans have expect some sort of crossover eventually. Henry Cavill’s Superman has been rumored to cameo, while a slew of other DC references are being made. But could Shazam join the Justice League one day?

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that there are “tentative” plans for Shazam’s future in the DC Films Universe, which may or may not include him meeting members of the Justice League. Producer Peter Safran merely says that he “wouldn’t be surprised” since it’s all the same world, while star Zachary Levi would be very excited to join the League. Also, the team has considered teenager Asher Angel’s growth when planning for sequels.

Obviously, Shazam joining the Justice League is far from a sure thing…for multiple reasons. For starters, Justice League was a real financial disappointment for Warner Bros., so it’s unclear if the studio will ever do a sequel or bring the team back in a future film. And, of course, if Shazam! underperforms too, then that’d affect any sequel plans. But, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Stay tuned.

Shazam! is set to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019. The seventh installment in the DC Films Universe stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, and Djimon Hounsou. David F. Sandberg directs from a script by Henry Gayden.
