Hops and Box Office Flops: GREEN LANTERN – Shallow Hal Jordan
Green Lantern is a mess—an expensive one, at that. Its horrid CGI suit tells all the tales one needs to know about how misguided the project was. And it was a misfire that had serious ramifications. In 2011, Green Lantern was meant to serve as the kickoff to a new DC movie universe. That notion was immediately squashed. On a budget over $200 million, it grossed just $219.9 million worldwide. Worse, critics (26% on Rotten Tomatoes with 246 reviews) and audiences (45%) reviled it. There would be no sequel, and there certainly would not be an integrated universe with Ryan Reynold’s Hal Jordan at its center. When you watch it, none of the numbers…

From the project’s inception, to breaking the story that it was about to be entirely overhauled, the fallout from the theatrical cut, and the impending arrival of The Snyder Cut, the two share their unique perspectives on what a strange trip its been. MFR also speaks candidly with Bill about their differing approaches when it comes to dealing with the more toxic corners of Snyder’s fandom, and anyone who’s had an issue with him (or any of the BOF crew) are…

FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 7×01- “All’s Well That Ends Wells”
The Flash (7×01)- “All’s Well That Ends Wells” Written by: Sam Chalsen & Lauren Certo Directed by: Geoffrey Wing Shotz Okay! You’re not writing about the Mandalorian anymore. You’re writing about the Flash… You can do this. After a one hundred and fifteen thousand years, The Flash is back and it’s a doozy! First off, the recap was very useful. Afterwards we open on Chester monitoring the computers at STAR Labs when Eva shows up so Chester hints a button and brings Barry out of carbon freeze… Wait! That’s something else! Apparently they been keeping Barry in cryo-freeze alongside Ted Williams and Walt Disney to save what little speed he…

Hops and Box Office Flops: BALLISTIC ECKS VS SEVER – Moaning Techno and Explosions
Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is bad. Like truly awful. Its plot is convoluted; its action is often nonsensical and unimaginative; and it does little to capitalize on its star power. Antonio Banderas literally has nothing to do. This guy was El Mariachi in Desperado, for Pete’s sake. Let him do more than smoke cigarettes and drink. Anyway, there is a boat load of slow motion, if you’re into that. Most of it is wholly unnecessary, but it’s there; and it probably adds 10 minutes to the runtime—a portion of your life you will never get back. There’s also a lot of sulking and staring. There’s an abundance of Ray Park in a…

ALBUM REVIEW: Denizen Tenant by Joseph Williams
This is a two part review. Check out our review of I Found The Sun Again by Steve Lukather. When you hear the name John Williams, what typically comes to mind is Superman, Star Wars, or Indiana Jones. What’s remarkable about the elder Williams’ career is how iconic it is, permeating all parts of pop culture and cementing the modern orchestra as something cinematic. His legacy is one that few artists ever achieve. And yet, his music is not his only legacy. John’s youngest son is Joseph, who also happens to be the frontman of Toto. Joseph Williams is one of those guys who puts it all out there when…

ALBUM REVIEW: I Found The Sun Again by Steve Lukather
This is a two part review. Check out our review of Denizen Tenant by Joseph Williams. One of the greatest guitarists of all time is a man you probably don’t know by name. He’s played on over 1,500 records for names like Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Elton John, Kenny Rogers, Cher… and that’s not even the highlights. Chances are one of your favorite 80’s tracks has him on it. Steve Lukather, ladies and gentlemen. is a living legend. And then there’s Toto. TOTO, MAN!!! For four decades, Luke’s been the lead guitarist for the band that spawned “Africa,” “Rosanna,” “Hold The Line,” and more. Anytime the man plays, it’s exciting.…

Hops and Box Office Flops: TOP SECRET! – We Know a Little German
Top Secret! was the team of Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker’s follow up to their incredibly successful Airplane! It, like its predecessor, is an indescribably goofy movie—full of off the wall gags, jokes, and non-sequiturs. If you have seen Airplane!, you will understand what kind of humor it is. These guys were the kings of this style of comedy, and Top Secret! certainly lives up to that pedigree. It also introduced moviegoers to Val Kilmer. This was his big screen debut, and it’s clear why he went on to become a household name. Where this movie suffers is a lack of clear narrative focus and a truly defined world. It is set in immediate…

REVIEW: Superman & Lois 1×01: Pilot – It’s a Lois and Clark Solo Series, baby!
It’s 2021, y’all, and Lois Lane STILL doesn’t have a solo movie. On the other hand, it’s 2021 and Lois Lane has a co-staring TV Show now! That’s what you call loosing the battle but winning the war. Superman & Lois is the latest take on DC’s man in tights. Part of the Arrowverse, the show was developed by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti and stars Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, and Jordan Elsass & Alex Garfin as their sons Jonathan & Jordan. The show has a different feel from most Arrowverse-fare. It’s presented in anamorphic widescreen, making the show look like you’re watching a…

OFFICIAL: Revenge of the Fans joins WOBAM Entertainment – THE FANBOY PODCAST, HOPS AND BOX OFFICE FLOPS, and more!
We used to joke in our group chat about buying Revenge of the Fans for $1. Mario-Francisco Robles never would have sold it, of course, and it was worth way more than a buck, but the thought was always amusing since we were something of a sister site. A lot has changed with our sites in the last couple years. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed everyday life, and many of us are in different places than we were a couple years ago. The landscape of geek journalism is ever changing too, with news being carried by larger sites and the rumor mill shifting towards Twitter. With these changing landscapes, new…
