John Wesley Shipp’s Flash Will Return in Arrowverse’s “Elseworlds” Crossover
John Wesley Shipp has played a key supporting role on The Flash, first as Barry Allen’s father and then as speedster Jay Garrick. But before all that, he played Barry Allen himself in the 1990 The Flash television series. Well, it looks like he will reprise that role for the Arrowverse’s next crossover event.
Arrow star Stephen Amell tweeted the following “Elseworlds” set photo, featuring Oliver Queen and Barry Allen in their swapped costumes, as well as Supergirl. But most significantly, it shows John Wesley Shipp in his original Flash costume.
No big deal. Just working with @JohnWesleyShipp for the first time. Nice of him to dress up for the occasion. pic.twitter.com/twRkwIhilv— Stephen Amell (@StephenAmell) October 22, 2018
After seven years, this just might be the coolest thing we’ve ever done…@JohnWesleyShipp pic.twitter.com/mmpac4k5YE— Marc Guggenheim (@mguggenheim) October 23, 2018
It’s unclear exactly how he fits into the plot, but this cements Shipp’s OG Flash as part of the Arrowverse’s Multiverse. We got our first hint at that during The Flash‘s “Welcome to Earth-2” episode, which featured glimpses of multiple worlds, such as OG Flash’s.
This marks Shipp’s third role in the Arrowverse, and it’s so cool how they’re bringing back his original character back to life. It’s just the latest indicator of just how big a deal “Elseworlds” will be. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
“Elseworlds” begins on Sunday, December 9th at 8 PM EST on The CW.
