Recap: SUPERGIRL Season One, Episode Sixteen ‘Falling’
WARNING: This review contains spoilers. This episode starts out really sweet; We see Kara doing what she does best, being Supergirl. She helps a young girl who is being bullied, and saves firemen from a burning building. Everything is going well for our heroine, and she seemingly saves the day. Unfortunately she is exposed to the newly discovered Red Kryptonite. A substance that mirrors Green Kryptonite’s affect Kryptonians, but it affects them mentally rather than physically. For most of the episode we are accompanied by who I like to call “Darth Kara”. She is fierce and is the complete opposite of the mild-mannered Girl Scout we’ve come accustomed to seeing.…

Review: SUPERMAN II
Note: This review will be covering the original, theatrical cut of the film directed primarily by Richard Lester. Superman 2 is less of a sequel and more of a “Part 2,” directly continuing threads woven in the original, despite production problems and being arguably inferior to the first. Once again, the relationship between Clark & Lois takes a good portion of the spotlight, and the plot receives organic development in the form of Lois discovering Clark to be Superman. The plot develops even further when Clark opts to use the Fortress Of Solitude’s technology to remove his powers in favor of a normal life with Lois, only to find life as…

Rumor: Is DC Comics Planning a New TV Show Titled PENNYWORTH?
DC Entertainment has had much success on television in recent years, with shows such as Arrow, Gotham, Supergirl and The Flash all being very successful. Rumor has it that yet another series has entered development, but this one sounds…interesting, to say the least. According to Bleeding Cool, DC Comics has registered a trademark for the name Pennyworth, and the trademark “seems to be” for a new TV show. Of course, Batman fans will recognize the name as that of Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler and ally. No further details are given for Pennyworth. Bleeding Cool speculates that it could be a Gotham spinoff starring Sean Pertwee’s Alfred. Other possibilities…

Review: BATMAN RETURNS
Batman Returns is director Tim Burton’s second (and final) Batman film. With action, drama, and tons of Burton’s flair; there’s a lot going on in this movie. Mild spoilers are a given in this review (the film is over 20 years old after all). So let’s dive in and take a look back at Batman Returns. The film starts with a flashback giving us our first look at (a baby) Oswald Cobblepot (Danny DeVito). Cobblepot was born with flippers for hands and a pointed nose, almost like a Penguin (get it?). Not only was Oswald born with these birth defects, he also had animal-like instincts. We even see him grab…

Review: SUPERMAN (1978)
Arguably the first true cinematic comic book adaptation, Superman is a film which mostly holds up almost four decades after its original release. Of course, one cannot forget to at least touch upon Christopher Reeve’s performance as the titular character when discussing the film. Reeve simply embodies both sides of his character so perfectly, from the sheer heroism of Superman to the awkward timidness of Kent, and it is easy to see why his performance is fondly remembered to this day. The other cast members offer entertaining, if not exactly nuanced, portrayals of their characters, with Margot Kidder as Lois Lane and Gene Hackman particularly standing out. However, the binding glue…

The CW Officially Renews ARROW, THE FLASH, iZOMBIE and DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW for New Seasons
Today, The CW has announced its renewal of practically every show on its slate. Fortunately (and unsurprisingly), this means that all four of its DC/Vertigo shows will be back next season. Arrow, which launched the modern comic book television craze back in 2012, will return for its fifth season. The Flash, the network’s highest-rated show, and iZombie will both be back for their third seasons. And The CW’s 2016 midseason hit, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, will return for a second season. It’s unknown if Legends of Tomorrow will stick to its midseason schedule, or if it’ll move to fall next season. However, the other three shows will (probably) return in…

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Scribe Chris Terrio Talks Influences, JUSTICE LEAGUE’s Tone and More
In his first interview about his involvement with the DC Extended Universe, scribe Chris Terrio spoke with The Wall Street Journal about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as his work on Justice League. Naturally, after landing the job of writing Batman v Superman, Terrio immersed himself into the DC Comics lore. He also took influence from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. “It’s impossible to know everything in the DC universe, but I threw myself into it and tried to learn as much as possible and I found such intelligence in so many of the comics. Obviously Frank Miller is a well-known and respected writer who influences…

Review/Reflection: BATMAN (1989)
Tim Burton’s original Batman, released in 1989, is one of the most monumental films in comic book movie history. It formally kicked off the long-running Batman film franchise, which is still going to this day. It also showed that darker superhero movies can be very successful. But, does Batman still hold up to this day? There’s a lot to love in Batman 89. The dark tone works, even when incorporating comic book-ish elements. It’s a good middle-ground between the realistic tone of The Dark Knight Trilogy and the overt camp in Joel Schumacher’s films. Burton’s directorial work was good, as was the cinematography. And Danny Elfman’s score is just perfect.…
