Arrow Season 4, Episode 8, “Legends of Yesterday” Review
[This is a review of Arrow Season 4, Episode 8, Legends of Yesterday, and it will contain spoilers.] This year’s Arrow/Flash crossover found a way to be more true to the concept of a crossover than last year’s, which mostly just shared a few characters. We have a continuous antagonist, a cliffhanger ending, and a single story told in two parts. While the crossover episodes might not serve as the best standalone installments of either Arrow or The Flash in that they don’t really progress the plot of either show (and really mostly serves to set up Legends of Tomorrow), it really allows the strengths of both shows to shine through…

Arrow, Season 4, Episode 7, ‘Brotherhood’ Review
[This is a full spoiler review for Arrow Season 4, Episode 7, so be warned.] Arrow’s doing something new. A lot of things new, actually, although you wouldn’t believe it when the episode opens with a truck heist. Or when that heist is stopped by a mob of masked vigilantes. Or when some characters make stubborn decisions that don’t seem to make any sense.Despite all these tired cliches that have come to personify this show, it is actually going in some fresh and new directions.First, before I get to the actual episode, my hat is off to Gordon Verheul. Gordon has directed almost 2 dozen episodes of Arrow at this…

Colton Haynes Is Returning as Roy Harper to ARROW This Season
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Colton Haynes will be returning as Roy Harper to Arrow following the winter hiatus. He has taken to Twitter to confirm his involvement and arrival in Vancouver for filming. Just landed in Vancouver to…BEGIN FILMING ON #ARROW AGAIN!!! 🙀😸🙀 So excited!!! — Colton Haynes (@ColtonLHaynes) November 20, 2015 He is returning for Episode 412, which will air after the winter hiatus. No details are known for his return. Roy was last seen in Season 3, taking the fall for Oliver as the Arrow and faking his own death. Later, Thea tracked him down but then again disappeared. What could this mean for Team Arrow? Will…

Arrow, Season 4, Episode 4, ‘Beyond Redemption,’ Review
[This is a full review of Arrow, Season 4, Episode 4, ‘Beyond Redemption,’ and there will be spoilers.] Oliver Queen doesn’t want to fail his city. After 5 years in hell, he came back to adopt the mantle of The Arrow, and started violently punishing criminals that were tearing his city apart. Through the years, he’s collected some new friends, as well as some new enemies that wanted to bring Starling City to its knees. Despite Oliver’s most drastic actions of becoming Ra’s al Ghul, heir to the demon, and leader of the League of Assassins, Starling City, now re-branded Star City has descended into chaos. The citizens are leaving,…

Arrow, Season 4, Episode 2, ‘The Candidate,’ Review
[This is a full review, and there will be spoilers.] After the season 4 premier episode puts Team Arrow right back where we left them, episode 2 wastes no time in introducing new plot elements. While many appear quite promising for the long haul of season 4, one can’t help but feel some of the extra threads could also become cumbersome quite quickly. Whereas episode 1 was very much focused on the lack of leadership and the void left by the absence of The Arrow, episode 2 is very much about Leadership. Jessica Danforth decides to run for Mayor, Felicity struggles to convince the Palmer Technologies board of directors (and…

Arrow, Season 4, Episode 1 ‘Green Arrow’ Review
[Warning: This is a full spoiler review.] After an overall underwhelming 3rd season, Arrow Season 4 kicks things off with an entirely fresh take. Oliver and Felicity have settled in to a suburban lifestyle, and are trying to live a domesticated life, having brunch with neighbors, and learning to become better cooks. Oliver still wears a green hoodie from time to time, but he’s gotten the dragon tattoo that memorialized Shado removed as he tries to move beyond his past life, and he’s even preparing to propose to Felicity. Unfortunately, the fresh take stops there. Things are not so different in the city formerly known as Starling city. Some things…

Arrow, Episode 23, ‘My Name is Oliver Queen’ Review
One thing that has remained reliably about Arrow is that the show always delivers when it has to. Fortunately, the Season 3 finale is one of the better episodes this season. It’s just too bad that episodes of this quality were not the norm for most of the season. “My Name is Oliver Queen” does provide justification for the rolloercoaster of seemingly poor decisions made by various characters up until this point, but it still doesn’t provide ex post facto improvement to the majority of the rest of the season. The big questions for this episode were how Oliver was going to get out of this situation, but even more…

Arrow, Season 3, Episode 18, ‘Public Enemy’ Review
The following is a review for Arrow, Season 3, Episode 18, “Public Enemy.” There will be spoilers. As Ra’s al Ghul turns Starling City against The Arrow, Oliver finds himself backed into a corner where he must decide what The Arrow truly stands for, and which direction he should choose when there are only two options remaining. Although Season 3 has been a far cry from much of what was accomplished in Season 2 when it comes to writing and story arc, there has been a noticeable slow and steady climb to a place where the payoff is beginning to have value. This is especially the case with this episode,…

Arrow, Season 3, Episode 15, ‘Nanda Parbat’ Review
[This is a review for Arrow season 3, episode 14: Uprising. There will be spoilers.] Now that many of the secrets being harbored by various members of Team Arrow have been revealed, the story is moving forward again, as Oliver continues to pursue a second match with Ra’s al Ghul. After several weeks of sub-bar storytelling, Arrow is finally picking back up. This episode appears to have begun to regain some of the self awareness that has been lacking since the end of season 2. The flashbacks are a little more sensible, the drama less drawn out, and it feels like the plot is actually moving forward again. As Thea…
