New Details on CW Seed’s FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY; Fall Premiere Set

Last year, CW Seed announced another Arrowverse animated series, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, joining Vixen and the upcoming Constantine. Since then, we haven’t heard too much about this show, save for a San Diego Comic-Con trailer. But today, we have a bunch of new details, as long as an idea of when it’s premiering.

TV Insider spoke with executive producer Marc Guggenheim about Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which premieres sometime this fall on CW Seed. The story focuses on The Ray and his team, the Freedom Fighters, fighting Nazis and evil doppelgangers of classic Arrowverse heroes on Earth-X. The series, obviously, focuses primarily on The Ray, the first gay superhero to headline a TV show. The show will also explore his “classic” superhero origin story, as well as how his love life complicates his heroics.

But Freedom Fighters will also spend time on the team. Guggenheim says, “In Multiversity, Grant Morrison came up with an idea we really responded to: The Freedom Fighters are made up of various minorities targeted by Nazis – women, gay men, Jews. We wanted to honor that idea. At the same time, it’s an origin story about the Earth-1 iteration of The Ray.”

Additionally, Supergirl‘s Melissa Benoist voices the Earth-X version of her character, Overgirl. We’ll also be meeting evil versions of Green Arrow and Flash. The series will also feature Cisco Ramon, Mr. Terrific, and Vixen.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
