After many years in development hell, Sony is finally moving forward with its Venom movie, starring one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. Tom Hardy is set to play Eddie Brock, while Ruben Fleischer is directing. Now, as the film gets ready for its fall production, we have some casting news.
Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have learned that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story alum Riz Ahmed is in talks to join the cast of Venom. It’s unknown who exactly he would play. Variety says that it’s a “popular” Marvel character. Meanwhile, THR says that it’s NOT Carnage, even though Ahmed was considered for that role before script changes.
Variety’s Justin Kroll adds that actors Matt Smith, Pedro Pascal, and Mathias Schoenarts were also up for this role.
With production beginning this fall, expect more casting news to be announced soon. Stay tuned.
Venom is set to hit theaters on October 5th, 2018.
