DC TV Casting News Bits: ARROW, SUPERGIRL, BLACK LIGHTNING, THE FLASH
While we wait for our favorite DC shows to come back on The CW, we have some casting tidbits for next season. Arrow and Supergirl are adding new characters, Black Lightning has found its big bad, and The Flash has added a new villain.
- According to TV Line, Arrow is currently seeking an Australian actor to play an “introverted, moody and naturally athletic” teenager in a guest-starring role. This is almost definitely Joe Wilson, the son of Slade Wilson. In last season’s finale, Oliver gave Slade information about his son’s whereabouts, in exchange for his help to defeat Prometheus. It appears that this season will continue that storyline, which isn’t surprising given Slade’s formal return to the series. Arrow returns on Thursday, October 12th at 9 PM EST.
- TV Line also reveals that Supergirl is seeking an actress in her 40’s to play a mysterious and “sexually compelling” Kryptonian. The unnamed character is compared to Game of Thrones‘ Melisandre. Meanwhile, 24 actor Carlos Bernard has been cast as Oscar Rodas, the father of Maggie Sawyer. Last season revealed that Maggie came into conflict with her family (especially her father) due to her sexuality. So, awkward family reunion time? Supergirl returns on Monday, October 9th at 8 PM EST.
- Next, we have a main villain for Black Lightning. It has been announced that rapper/actor Marvin “Krondon” James III is set to play Tobias Whale. An African-American man with albinism, Whale is the leader of The 100 gang. Before Black Lightning’s crusade, Whale “…was a politician, rising up the ranks of local government through corrupt and illegal means. That was until he was brought down by Alvin Pierce, Jefferson’s father. Enraged, Tobias murdered Alvin and was driven underground into exile. It’s here he found a place to rebuild, growing into the violent and methodical leader of The 100 as we find him today. But Black Lightning’s recent return has ignited Tobias’ desire to emerge from the shadows and face his biggest adversary.” Black Lightning premieres early next year.
- And finally, another DC Comics villain is popping up on The Flash. According to Variety, actress Sugar Lyn Beard has been cast as Rebecca Sharpe, aka Hazard. She will appear in episode three of the show’s fourth season. The character is described as “perpetually down-on her luck and is convinced her life is cursed – until a freak accident changes everything. With the universe on her side, she poses a threat to both Team Flash and Central City.” The Flash returns on Tuesday, October 10th at 8 PM EST.
Stay tuned for more DC TV updates as we have them.
