MAN OF STEEL Composer Hans Zimmer Confirms Plans To Score BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN
After his stellar work on The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, Oscar winning composer Hans Zimmer will return to the DC Universe in the follow-up to the latter. Speaking with Digital Spy, Zimmer confirms that he has been asked to score Batman vs. Superman by director Zack Snyder, and plans to visit the set of the film after finishing his work on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. “We’ve already had a couple of chats, and once I finish the movie that I shall not talk about I will probably head over to where Zack is shooting his movie and just hang out a bit and see if we can come up with any ideas.”
Zimmer was initially hesitant about returning for the Man of Steel sequel, but it appears that he is confident enough to move forward. However, he admits that one problem he will have in the process is creating a new theme for Ben Affleck’s Batman, after scoring the Christian Bale-led saga. “That’s my problem, that’s my dilemma. I don’t want to betray, if that’s the right word, the Dark Knight movies. That was Christian, it was Christian’s role. It’s not just that it was nine years of our lives, so you want to stay honest and honourable to that period. So it’s really about, ‘Is there something else I can find that I haven’t tapped into?’ Which I don’t know until I sit down with Zack.”
This is certainly great news, as Zimmer is without a doubt one of the best composers active today. It will be interesting to see how he crafts a new Batman theme after working on one iteration of the character for nearly a decade. However, Batman vs. Superman won’t be Zimmer’s next superhero entry – his latest film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, hits US theaters on May 2nd.
Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Holly Hunter, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
