NorthAmerican #boxoffice reporting on #BatmanvSuperman is now final. Domestic run finished at $330,360,194. 50% was from opening wknd.— Gitesh Pandya (@GiteshPandya) June 17, 2016
There’s no denying that Batman v Superman made a lot of money. However, it’s hard not to feel at least a little disappointed. Everyone had expected this film to make at least $1 billion, considering it is an event movie that, for the first time ever, brings Batman and Superman together on the big screen. Its gross was certainly hindered by negative reviews from critics and lukewarm reception from the general audience.
Batman v Superman has a budget of at least $250 million, and Warner Bros. spent about $150 million on marketing. So, the movie is not a “bomb” by any means; simply a disappointment. It’s an OK number, but it could have been a lot bigger. But, it is what it is.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (both the theatrical cut and the “Ultimate Edition”) will be released on digital platforms on June 28th, while the home video releases will debut on July 19th.
