DC TV News Bits: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Adds Commander Steel, Calista Flockhart Returns to SUPERGIRL, Stephen Amell Talks Oliver Queen’s Beard

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow previously added Nate Heywood, aka Citizen Steel, to its cast for season two. Meanwhile, his grandfather, Henry Heywood Sr./Commander Steel, was confirmed for the show as a member of the Justice Society of America. Now, the role has been cast.

According to Entertainment Weekly, iZombie actor Matthew MacCaull has been cast as Commander Steel on Legends of Tomorrow. Further details, including which episode he first appears in next season, are being kept under wraps. Other members of the JSA include Vixen, Hourman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Obsidian and Stargirl.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns on Thursday, October 13th at 8 PM EST on The CW.

When The CW picked up Supergirl for a second season, the show switched from Los Angeles to Vancouver for production. This move shed doubt on Calista Flockhart’s (Cat Grant) role moving forward. She was a series regular in season one, and she has always been expected to be present in season two. But the exact details of her role have been unconfirmed until now.
It has been announced (via Comic Book Resources) that Flockhart will be a “recurring guest star” for Supergirl season two. But how frequently will she appear? That hasn’t been decided yet, but executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says she’ll pop up whenever possible. He explains, Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”

Supergirl returns on Monday, October 10th at 8 PM EST on The CW.
Arrow star Stephen Amell spoke with the press, including CBR, at San Diego Comic-Con last month about the show’s fifth season. During the interview, he addressed the question on everybody’s lips: When will Oliver Queen grow his signature goatee? Amell explains why that probably won’t happen – at least this season. “Sometimes on the show — like we do in the first episode this year — we flash back to something that happened in our first four seasons, so what would I do with a goatee, then? This is the reality about episodic television.”

While Amell won’t grow a real goatee anytime soon, there’s still the idea of a fake beard. He wore one for an episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, where he plays Queen 30 years in the future. Turns out Amell wasn’t a fan of the fake beard while filming. “I would like the goatee at some point, but I’m not wearing a fake beard. It’s a 183-day shoot, the fake beard is itchy. The truth is, the few days that I spent on Legends of Tomorrow were literally the longest days I have ever had on set. The beard itched. It was bad.”
So, we’ll have to wait and see on this goatee. Season six, maybe? For Amell’s full interview, where he talks about this season’s flashbacks and why Oliver Queen is a “garbage” mayor, click HERE.
