Ciarán Hinds Will Play Steppenwolf in JUSTICE LEAGUE
The villain Steppenwolf was introduced in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The scene was later included in the Ultimate Edition release. Since then, it was confirmed that the character will serve as the main villain in next year’s Justice League, which recently wrapped production. But casting for this role has been under wraps…until now.
The Wrap has revealed that actor Ciarán Hinds is playing Steppenwolf in Justice League. This is a motion capture role, and it is compared to Josh Brolin’s portrayal of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, those who weren’t impressed with Steppenwolf’s appearance in Batman v Superman will be pleased to know that he will have an “upgraded” look in Justice League.
In Justice League, Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons come to Earth in search of three Mother Boxes. Considering his history in the comics, Steppenwolf’s arrival would surely open up the New Gods mythos in the DC Extended Universe and, most likely, set up Darkseid as a future villain.
Steppenwolf marks Hinds’ latest comic book movie role, after previously appearing in Road to Perdition and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The actor’s other credits include Game of Thrones, Frozen and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
Justice League is scheduled to hit theaters November 17th, 2017. The fifth installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Ciarán Hinds, Amber Heard, Joe Morton, Willem Dafoe, Jeremy Irons, Jesse Eisenberg and J.K. Simmons. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio.
