THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Retains the #1 Spot in its Second Weekend
The LEGO Batman Movie opened last week with a $53 million debut. While it was lower than some predictions, this is still a very good figure for the animated spin-off, and it gave it the #1 spot at the domestic box office. Now, the film is in its second weekend, and it continues to retain its crown.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, LEGO Batman has grossed an estimated $34.2 million over the three day weekend. It is expected to reach $45 million over the four day President’s Day weekend. This brings the film past the $100 million mark domestically. This weekend, the film beats off a slew of new films, including Matt Damon-starrer The Great Wall and Fist Fight.
Overseas, LEGO Batman grossed an additional $21.5 million for a total of $72 million. This brings its worldwide total to about $170.8 million, more than double its $80 million production budget. With both this and the highly positive word-of-mouth from both critics and audiences, and LEGO Batman is already a big hit for Warner Bros.
