LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Casts Tala Ashe as New DC Superhero
As expected, Legends of Tomorrow will add new DC heroes to the Waverider Crew for its third season. Producer Marc Guggenheim previously teased the introduction of a character who was not created for the comics, but was established in other media (think a past DC show or movie). Now, we know who that character is.
It has been announced (via TV Line) that Smash actress Tala Ashe has joined the Legends of Tomorrow cast as Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a Muslim-American computer nerd who comes from the year 2030. Zari will be a series regular role for next season. She is described as a character who “…lives in a world of contradictions. Technology has brought about incredible change in her future – too bad human nature hasn’t kept pace. Fear, prejudice, and a lack of care for the planet have forced Zari to become a ‘grey hat hacktivist.'”
In the comics, Adrianna Tomaz is based on the protagonist of The Secrets of Isis, a 1970s show that aired alongside Shazam! on CBS. Tomaz is an Egyptian who uses the Amulet of the goddess Isis to become a superhero, also named Isis. (For very obvious reasons, don’t actually expect a superhero with that codename on the show.) In the comics, Tomaz’s powers include telekinesis, superhuman strength, flight, and many more. She is also a member of the Black Marvel Family alongside Black Adam.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns for its third season next fall on The CW.
