The Watchtower of Babel News Crew Weighs In on WONDER WOMAN
After the character’s creation 76 years ago, Wonder Woman is now a movie that is currently playing in theaters. The film is the first installment of the DC Extended Universe to receive mostly positive reviews from critics, while fans and audiences love it too. It has proven to be a box office hit, having a strong opening weekend and maintaining legs beyond that. In fact, its second weekend drop of 43% is one of the lowest ever for a superhero film.
Today, some members of the Watchtower of Babel News staff have decided to share our individual thoughts on Wonder Woman. What did we think of the film? You can find out below.
Wonder Woman is a wonderful (pun intended) addition to the DC Extended Universe. While it entertains as a superhero action spectacle, it’s perhaps more important to see for its treatment of heroism, with Gal Gadot giving a graceful performance. In a world that feels like it’s being conquered by hatred more and more each day, it’s important for a film like this to come along to preach the values of compassion and love. That bravery can trump evil. 4.5/5 – John [Full Review]
Wonder Woman is by far the best DC Film since The Dark Knight. Diana is everything you could possibly want in a heroine. She’s strong, inspiring, loving, but she’ll cut your head off if need be. It’s a tough role to pull off, but Gal Gadot turns in a wonderful performance. The film does have a few problems; too much slo-mo, a few issues in the third act, etc. Thankfully they aren’t major flaws, and the film bounces back from them. Wonder Woman has the hopefulness of Superman [1978] and Spider-Man [2001], and the epic feel of a Peter Jackson film. It truly is the perfect summer blockbuster. 4.5/5 – Michael [Full Review]
Wonder Woman was a solid movie and a lot of that can be credited to Gadot and Jenkins. Gadot is the heart of the film and pretty much exactly what this movie needed her to be. It might have been a bit more safe than the previous films but just making Wonder Woman was a risk for Warner Brothers so I’m fine with that. – Jason
Wonder Woman was an awesome experience. The score was beautiful, I loved the new theme for Wonder Woman. I loved the dynamic between Gadot and Pine, their “cheesy” factor really brought a life like quality to their on screen relationship. The laughs were well-timed, and not forced like I’ve seen in other superhero movies. The new DC intro was incredible. I had some issues in the third act with pacing, but pacing is easy to overlook in my opinion. I’m really excited for Justice League in the fall! – Katie
