Possible New Details on Warner Bros.’ Joker Origin Movie

Last week, it was revealed that Warner Bros. is planning a new movie focusing on The Joker, exploring his origin in 1980s Gotham City. The film is separate from the DC Extended Universe; rather, it is part of a new banner consisting of non-canon DC movies. Todd Phillips is directing, while Martin Scorsese is reportedly producing.

And now, we may have some new details on this Joker’s characterization. Former MMA fighter Brendan Schaub appeared on an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience (via Batman-News) recently. Schaub is a friend of Todd Feldman, who is Todd Phillips’ agent. Talk eventually turned to the Joker movie, and Schaub goes on to share some new details about it.

Schaub claims, “It’s dark. It’s like a dark Joker. As a kid, he had a permanent smile and everyone made fun of him. It’s like on the streets of Brooklyn. It’s super dark and real.” So, basically, this Joker is damaged by being bullied as a child, due to his permanent smile. These comments go along with what we previously knew about the movie, which was described as a grounded/gritty hard-boiled crime thriller.
