WONDER WOMAN Surpasses $400 Million at the Domestic Box Office

Wonder Woman has proven to be an unstoppable force at the box office this summer. The DC film has maintained exceptional legs during its two-month (so far) run in theaters – stronger than any superhero movie in decades. Now, the movie has reached yet another key benchmark.

Today, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Wonder Woman has reached the $400 million mark at the domestic box office. It is the 27th film in history to earn this gross, and only the eighth superhero movie to do so. It is also the third highest grossing Warner Bros. film to date, following The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. (It surpassed all the other DCEU films a while back.)

Overseas, Wonder Woman has been performing well, but not on the same level as it is in North America – something that’s rare for modern blockbuster. Worldwide, the movie is now over $795 million; it should surpass $800 million soon.

Sue Kroll, WB’s president of worldwide marketing and distribution, had this to say about Wonder Woman‘s success. “When Wonder Woman opened to such a terrific number in June, we thought, ‘This is truly a moment’ – for the film, for our industry, for director Patty Jenkins and, of course, for Gal Gadot. Now, more than two months later, Wonder Woman has become a phenomenon, the must-see movie of the summer. Audiences have embraced this character and her story in such a spectacular fashion, and we couldn’t be happier for everyone involved in bringing this incredible property to life and to cinemas across the country.”

After this movie, we can expect to see plenty more of Wonder Woman on the big screen. A standalone sequel will be released in December 2019, while Diana will return in this fall’s Justice League. Additionally, the character is expected to appear in the Flashpoint movie.
