SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Soars Past $800 Million Worldwide After China Debut
Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming has already been a strong box office performer this summer, serving as one of the year’s biggest hits. However, now that the film has opened in China, the reboot has gotten a huge boost, allowing it to break a few key records.
Homecoming opened with a whopping $70.3 million in China, which Sony calls the third biggest opening weekend ever for a superhero film in the nation. The movie has now grossed $327.7 million domestically and $495.3 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to a huge $823 million.
Homecoming has now surpassed Wonder Woman ($816 million), and it is just $40 million away from passing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as the highest grossing superhero movie of the year. It’s also the second biggest Spidey movie of all time, behind Spider-Man 3 ($890.9 million). Worldwide, Homecoming is #6 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ahead of every other non-sequel and solo hero film.
So, ultimately, Homecoming shows no signs of slowing down. Stay tuned for more box office updates as we have them. And be sure to check out the movie on home video later this fall.
