Evangeline Lilly Considered Playing WONDER WOMAN, Presumably For Joss Whedon’s Movie

Back in 2005, when Warner Bros. was developing a Wonder Woman movie with writer-director Joss Whedon, one of the actresses rumored to be in contention for the titular role was Lost star Evangeline Lilly. She was even said to have been cast in the role, but that was denied. Now, speaking with

MTV, Lilly confirmed that she did take a meeting for the role, but didn’t say that it was for Whedon’s film. “I actually went in and met on Wonder Woman at one point. Before the thing fell apart. That was early, that was first season of ‘LOST’ before I went, wait a minute, I don’t know if I want to do this!” MTV speculates that she’s either talking about Whedon’s Wonder Woman or the Justice League: Mortal project, the latter of which was casting in 2007. However, it seems likely that Lilly was up for the former.

The actress then says that she’s a fan of Wonder Woman, saying, “Wonder Woman was my favorite superhero as a little girl. I still have a huge girl crush on Wonder Woman, I think she’s amazing.” Despite recently appearing in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Lilly had been hesitant about blockbuster roles in the past. However, she does seem interested in tackling a project similar to Wonder Woman“Would I want to jump into a franchise like that at this point? It’s all speculation, but it is super flattering, it’s crazy flattering.” Of course, Gal Gadot is set to play Wonder Woman in 2015’s Batman vs. Superman and will presumably reprise the role in future DC movies. However, Lilly would have been a fine choice to play Diana of Themiscyra.
