More Details On DC’s Future Animation Slate And Building The Universe Of JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR

In stores tomorrow, Justice League: War marks the dawn of a new era for DC’s animated projects. The New 52 adaptation kicked off a new continuity that will be shared by future titles. Speaking with Comic Book Resources at War‘s world premiere, producer James Tucker talks about this new shared continuity between future Justice League and Batman features. “This will definitely be the first salvo in doing new movies that are in continuity with each other. Our next movie’s going to be ‘Son of Batman,’ and that Batman will be the same Batman that you see in ‘Justice League: War.’ Basically, we’ll have two concurrent series of Justice League movies and Batman movies, and they’ll be in continuity with each other. So it’s kind of world-building.”

The current plan – which Tucker says is “subject to change” – will be to continue releasing three movies a year. Two will be set in the Justice League: War universe, while the third would be standalone. For this year, JL: War and Son of Batman take place in the same universe, while Batman: Assault on Arkham is instead set in the same world as the Arkham video games. As for the new continuity, it will not be restricted to adapting New 52 storylines. Son of Batman, for instance, is an adaptation of the 2006 story arc “Batman and Son”. Director Jay Oliva says, “We can do original content, we can do New 52 stuff. I still want to do ‘Gotham by Gaslight.’ ‘Red Son’ would be a great one to do as a one-off.”
