Arrow star Stephen Amell’s cousin Robbie has finally landed a role in The CW’s take on the DC Universe. It has been announced that the Tomorrow People actor will play Ronnie Raymond, aka one-half of the DC superhero Firestorm, in the spin-off series The Flash. A recurring role which will start in Episode 3, Raymond will be Caitlin Snow’s fiance. The Arrow-verse version of the character is described a S.T.A.R. Labs maintenance worker who, “plays an integral part in the particle accelerator accident that transforms Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) into the titular speedster.”
In a statement, Greg Berlanti shared his excitement for bringing Firestorm into this world and casting Amell. “[DC Comics Chief Creative Officer] Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and myself designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting. We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.” It is currently unknown if Raymond will fully embrace his superhero alter ego in The Flash, but don’t be surprised if he does.
This news comes off the heels of Brandon Routh’s casting as Atom for Arrow‘s third season. These two join Arrow, Flash, Black Canary, and potentially Cisco Ramon/Vibe as the superheroes of this world. Surely more are on the way? Stay tuned for more news as we have it. The Flash premieres on October 7th on The CW.
