With the long-awaited Justice League movie set to follow Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2017 or 2018, there has been much speculation over who the main villain will be. Darkseid has been seen as the obvious choice for years, as he has fought the League many times, most recently in the New 52 “Origin” storyline. However, it was recently reported that Darkseid will not be in the first Justice League movie and will be saved for an inevitable sequel. Unsurprisingly, it was back to the drawing board for speculators. I suggested before that iconic Superman antagonist Brainiac could be the Justice League villain; see the link above for my speculation. And now, a reliable source has heard that this is exactly the case.
Latino-Review‘s El Mayimbe appeared this week on the Schmoes Know‘s “Meet the Press” podcast, and he dropped a pretty massive DC bombshell. Apparently, Brainiac is the main villain of the Justice League movie, and he will be set up at the end of Batman v Superman. Remember the beacon on the Kryptonian scout ship Superman sets off that grabs General Zod’s attention in Man of Steel? It appears that Brainiac heard it as well. Mayimbe also affirms that Darkseid will be saved for future DC movie(s), and that Chris Terrio is indeed writing Justice League.
The Suicide Squad movie is also discussed in the podcast, and Mayimbe reaffirms the lineup previously revealed from a script review. For that and much more, you can watch the entire episode of “Meet the Press” below. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
