Greg Berlanti Talks SUPERGIRL Casting And Potential ARROW/THE FLASH Crossovers
Greg Berlanti is a busy man. He’s Executive Producer for
both Arrow and The Flash for the CW, and next fall he will
likely add executive producer for CBS’ Supergirl
to that list. With all the excitement
the possibility of that series has caused has come a lot of questions and
considering Supergirl not only

is: Will Supergirl be able to

In an interview during the Television Critics Association
Tour this past weekend, Berlanti was asked just that question. He replied with: “So much has to go right for us to be able to
make a great show. Again, I think of myself as like if I were watching them, I
would want to see that. But we have to get so many things right to make a good
show and so much of it is luck, unfortunately.“

The answer was intentionally vague, likely for legal and
scheduling reasons. It’s one thing to
talk about crossovers when the show is first announced but it’s easy to imagine
issues becoming more clear as more progress is made in series development.

When it comes to Supergirl’s
development, he was more forthcoming. He
told IGN that the show would be closer to Flash’s
tone than Arrow’s. He touched on the differences between a female-centered
superhero shows versus a male-centered one and touched on how his experiences
not just on Flash and Arrow but also shows like No Ordinary Family has shaped his
approach to this show. Finally, he stressed the importance on casting and says that
he hopes to be able to make an announcement on the cast “soon.”
