Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill Discuss the Chances of a Standalone MAN OF STEEL Sequel

With Superman having a big focus in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the two-part Justice League, Warner Bros. is apparently in no hurry to put out a standalone sequel to Man of Steel. A second Superman solo film was confirmed to be released by 2020, but we haven’t received any solid news on it since. Now, director Zack Snyder and star Henry Cavill weigh in.

Speaking with IGN (transcription via ComicBook), Snyder says he would definitely be interested in returning to the solo world of Superman. “I think if we could get a good script it’d be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do.” He adds that the events of Batman v Superman is the reason why another solo film hasn’t been announced yet. “Part of the reason we haven’t announced the standalone Superman movie at this time was to support some of the events of this film.” After the end of Batman v Superman, Snyder’s statement here makes sense.

Meanwhile, Cavill explains what it would take for Superman to get another standalone movie, citing the crucial success of Batman v Superman and fitting it into the DC Extended Universe schedule. “I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well, then we can start negotiating with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman, but they’ve got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies, so it’s about finding the time really. It’s something I’d be very keen to do.”

Personally, I hope WB finds a way to get Man of Steel 2 off the ground sooner than later. I love the DCEU’s take on the character and want to see more. Teaming him up with Batman and other Justice Leaguers is great, but I’d love to see more of the character solo. Fingers crossed.
