New Details on ARROW and LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season Finales

The CW held a panel for its DC shows at PaleyFest this past weekend, featuring many cast members and producers from the Arrowverse. Both at the panel and on the red carpet, they offered new details on what to expect this season. Included are some hints for the season finales of both Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes on the red carpet, Arrow producer Wendy Mericle confirms that this year’s finale will finally break the trend of having a terrorist attack in Star City. This is due to Prometheus being a much more personal, grounded threat to Oliver Queen and the team. “I’ll just say this: Star City is not in jeopardy. As we’ve joked before, there’s always a terrorist attack on Star City in May. Not this time. Prometheus is a very personal villain, very psychological villain and the ending will be appropriate to that.”

In all four previous season finales, there was always a terrorist attack on the city. There was Malcolm Merlyn’s Undertaking in season one, Deathstroke’s seige in season two, Ra’s al Ghul’s breakout in season three, and Damien Darhk’s nuclear assault in season four. So, it’s great to hear that the show will be doing something different for this year.
Moving on to Legends of Tomorrow… During the PaleyFest panel (via TV Insider), Marc Guggenheim offers some teases for the season two finale. This year, the Legends will break a key rule in time-travelling. “That’s what the Legends are going to do. It’s a little bit of our homage to Back to the Future 2, with a Legends-esque spin. It has major consequences.” Series star Caity Lotz adds, “Things are going to get really bad. They are going to have to do some things they shouldn’t be doing. They’re going to have to break some rules and go against their own codes. The finale is the biggest episode we’ve ever done.”

Additionally, the episode will feature Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance, as part of the actress’s multi-show contract that she signed last year. Guggenheim says that Laurel only has one scene in the Legends finale, but it sounds like a good one. “It’s only one scene, but man, she’s spectacular in it. It’s a scene we’ve wanted to do since the beginning of the season. We really wanted to get Sara and Laurel back together.”

Lotz weighs in on the “wonderful” scene, saying, “Katie and I hadn’t been able to do a scene together in years. She feels like my sister now, so it was very emotional, nostalgic, and I think people will really like it.” As for whether Laurel will appear on any of the other shows again before the season’s end, Guggenheim won’t say.
The Legends of Tomorrow finale airs on Tuesday, April 4th, while Arrow‘s will premiere on Wednesday, May 24th on The CW. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
