Sony Finds Director For SILVER SABLE/BLACK CAT Spin-Off

The Sony Marvel Universe is moving forward with another film. The Hollywood Reporter broke news this morning that Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees) will direct Silver and Black, Sony’s Spider-Man “spin-off”.  The film will focus on Black Cat, a cat burglar who [in the comics] has had an ongoing romance with our favorite Web Slinger. Starring along side Black Cat is Silver Sable, a Spider-Man villain from 1985. Silver Sable is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals.

The script is being written by Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) and Lisa Joy (HBO’s Westworld); while Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal serve as producers. The film is slated for an October 2018 release date; the same month as their other Marvel film – Venom. It’s a little strange that they scheduled two Marvel films in the same month, but maybe we’ll get news of one moving back in the coming days.

Sony just rebooted Spider-Man in a joint effort with Marvel Studios. The character is set to star in his sixth live-action film (Spider-Man: Homecoming) in July. Sony has decided to make their own universe separate from their Spider-Man franchise. Venom and Black and Silver will be completely set in their own world. It’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out. For more news on Sony’s Spiderverse and all things Marvel, stay tuned.
