DC Announces its 2018 Animated Movies

At the Batman and Harley Quinn San Diego Comic-Con premiere panel last night, DC Entertainment announce its 2018 slate of animated movies. There are definitely a couple surprises in this lineup.

  • As previously reported, the next DC movie is Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. Since the comic book of the same name is only 48 pages, the movie will expand the story. No word on cast or crew yet.
  • Next, we have Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay. This will mark Task Force X’s first appearance in the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU). Hell to Pay will have an original story, along with an “amazing” but yet-to-be-announced voice cast.
  • And finally, later in 2018, DC will release Death of Superman. Yes, they already adapted this story in 2007’s Superman: Doomsday. However, DC is now doing a two-film adaptation to create a more faithful retelling of the story, similar to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. The second part, Reign of the Supermen, will be released in early 2019. Doomsday crammed both of these stories into a 75-minute runtime, so with two films, they will incorporate previously ignored parts of the comic.
Expect more details on these movies to be announced soon. Stay tuned.
