DC’s Next Animated Movie Will Adapt ANOTHER Iconic Batman Storyline

Warner Bros. Animation is premiering its next DC title, Batman and Harley Quinn, at San Diego Comic-Con later this month, before releasing it on home video and giving it a limited theatrical run next month. The SDCC panel is also expected to see the announcement of next year’s slate of DC animated movies. Today, we already know one of those titles.

World’s Finest Online has shared the back cover art for Batman and Harley Quinn, and it reveals the name of the next DC movie – Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. A first-look featurette will be include on the Batman and Harley Quinn home video release. We’ll likely learn more about this movie at SDCC in a couple weeks.

“Gotham by Gaslight” was a one-shot graphic novel published in 1989. The steampunk tale is considered DC’s first Elseworlds story, as it reimagines the Dark Knight and his world in the year 1889, during the Victorian era. Batman even goes up against Jack the Ripper in this story.

While Warner Bros. has heavily emphasized on Batman headlining the majority of DC’s animated movies – far more than any other character – there’s no denying that Batman is the studio’s biggest selling point. Batman movies make money, and as long as they do, we’re getting more. With that being said, telling unique storylines like Gotham by Gaslight is the way to go.
