Jaume Collet-Serra Won’t Direct SUICIDE SQUAD 2 After All
With David Ayer moving on to Gotham City Sirens, Warner Bros. has been searching for a new director to take over the Suicide Squad sequel. Mel Gibson was at the top of the shortlist for a while, but as the script underwent another rewrite, he eventually moved on. The studio then zeroed in on Jaume Collet-Serra, who was reportedly the frontrunner. However, that’s not happening either.
According to Deadline, Collet-Serra has dropped out of contention for Suicide Squad 2. The reason? He is now directing Disney’s Jungle Cruise movie, which stars Dwayne “Black Adam” Johnson. So, the search is on for another filmmaker for Task Force X’s next big screen outing. Deadline says that WB will “quickly” find a new director and reaffirms that the bulk of the first movie’s ensemble cast will return.
Suicide Squad 2 is expected to begin production sometime next year, presumably for a 2019 release. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
