DC TV News: Solomon Grundy Comes to GOTHAM and Jill Scott Joins BLACK LIGHTNING

We’ve reached that time of year where most of DC’s superhero shows will start in a matter of days. With the fall TV season ramping up we’re getting more news and details on what’s to come. Gotham is already underway and Black Lightning is getting ready for an early 2018 release. New details on both shows down below!

Starting things off is, of course, is Gotham. The show is in its fourth season and will have Solomon Grundy appear in a matter of weeks! Comicbook.com spoke with producer Bryan Wynbrandt and he told us when we’ll see Grundy. He is two episodes away, Wynbrandt said. He went on to talk about what Grundy will bring to the show: It’s got that Frankenstein-esk story to it. We are different from the comics in which Grundy’s appearances came of Cyrus Gold character,” Wynbrandt explained. We have Butch Gilzean who at the end of last season, we teased that his first name was Cyrus Gold which was obviously a nod to Grundy. Cyrus Gold has a cannon of its own that’s different from Gilzean. We really were looking at this as Butch Gilzean becoming Grundy. What’s great is now that Grundy’s back in the world, there are people who know him as Butch Gilzean. There’s a very interesting dynamic to play when he crosses with our core characters and they don’t know that he’s this new character, this new canonical villain. Grundy will make his first appearance in episode five, A Dark Knight: The Blade’s Path on FOX, October 19th.

In other news, Black Lightning has cast Grammy Award-winning singer Jill Scott as villain Lady Eve. According to Variety, Scott plays a “funeral parlor owner in Freeland who quickly becomes an adversary to Black Lightning as she becomes the bridge between Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) and a secret group of corrupt leaders.” Showrunner Salim Akil said: “Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and give them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex, I am excited to see her in the role of Lady Eve.” It’ll be interesting to see how big a role Scott will play. Black Lightning will debut in midseason 2018 on The CW.

That’s all we have for now, but expect more updates on the DC shows, especially for Black Lightning pretty soon. For more news on Gotham, Black Lightning, and everything in DC TV, stay tuned.
