DC TV Updates: SUPERGIRL Casts Brainiac-5, Captain Cold is Leaving the Arrowverse
Supergirl has been teasing the Legion of Superheroes’ arrival for a while. We’ve seen the ring in the Fortress of Solitude, Mon-El had close ties to the team in the comics, and member Saturn Girl is appearing this season. Now, we have confirmation that the team is coming soon, along with casting for another member.
According to TV Line, Defiance actor Jesse Rath has been cast in the recurring role of Brainiac-5. This half computer, half organic character is a member of the Legion of Superheroes, who travel from the 31st century to modern day National City to help Kara defeat her new enemy, Reign.
The Legion will appear in episode 10 of the season, appropriately titled “Legion of Super-Heroes.” Producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to say about the team’s arrival. “We’ve hinted at the Legion going back to Season 1, when we saw the Legion ring in the Fortress of Solitude, so the Legion will have a presence. Supergirl is about to face her greatest nemesis in the three years that we’ve been doing the show – we feel that Reign is the best villain we’ve ever had – so it’s going to take all the allies that she can muster to take Reign down. The Legion will be playing a big part in that.”
Expect the other members of the Legion to be confirmed soon.
Unfortunately, with the arrival of one fan-favorite character, it’s time to say goodbye to another. Actor Wentworth Miller, who plays Leonard Snart/Captain Cold in the Arrowverse, has announced that he is filming his final episodes as the character, and he will afterwards retire from the role.
