New Line’s Shazam has been building out its cast, which so far predominately consists of child actors. The DC movie stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Grace Fulton as Mary, and Cooper Andrews as the group home’s father. Now, we have more casting.
According to ComicBook, This is Us actress Faithe Herman has joined the cast of Shazam. While her character is unknown, she is said to be another friend of Billy Batson’s at a group home. The site speculates that she could be playing Darla Dudley, who befriends Billy at the group home in the New 52 comics. The film has seemingly been taking inspiration from that comic for some other characters, including Pedro and Eugene, so adding Darla too makes sense.
Shazam begins production in February under the direction of David F. Sandberg. The film is set to hit theaters in April 2019. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
