Steven Spielberg Joining the DC Universe with BLACKHAWK Movie

Warner Bros. has just announced its DC Films project, and the studio has brought the world’s most iconic filmmaker on board.

Steven Spielberg is set to produce an adaptation of DC’s Blackhawk, with an eye to direct. Spielberg is known for….. well, you already know who Spielberg is. And this is his first superhero movie ever. He most recently worked with WB on Ready Player One. Frequent collaborator David Koepp is writing the script.

WB’s Toby Emmerich had this to say in the following statement. “We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing Blackhawk to movie audiences worldwide.”

Spielberg himself adds, “It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring Ready Player One to the screen. They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on Blackhawk.”

In the comics, the Blackhawks are a squadron of pilots led by Blackhawk during World War II. The group fights Axis powers and other threats in the war.

Attaching Spielberg to this project is a very big deal, and it gives the DC brand a huge boost. Fingers crossed that development on Blackhawk will progress very well. Spielberg is currently planning to direct Indiana Jones 5 and West Side Story next, so it’ll probably be a little while before we see this one.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
