The 2018 WOBAM! AWARDS (Television)

We previously covered the year in film (check that out here), now the crew weighs in on the television side of things. Presenting The 2018 WOBAM! Awards – TV Edition.

Best Actor

Charlie Cox as Daredevil (Daredevil)

Runners-up:

  1. Stephen Amell (Arrow)
  2. Grant Gustin (The Flash)
  3. Brenton Thwaites (Titans)
  4. Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Charlie Cox has always been great in the role of Matt Murdock, but this season he elevated his performance to a new level. Matthew is a broken man who has to put back the pieces of his life. The emotion Cox brings makes you completely invested in the character and the story. The other actors were all great but none came close.

Best Actress

Melissa Benoist as Supergirl (Supergirl)

Runners-up:

  1. Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
  2. Anna Diop (Titans)
  3. Candice Patton (The Flash)
  4. Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow)

Melissa Benoist brings this warmth to the character that is akin to Christopher Reeves’ Clark Kent. That’s something that is hard to replicate, even now DC doesn’t always know how to nail that tone. Yet Benoist manages to pull it off beautifully.

Best Supporting Actor

Vincent D’onofrio as Wilson Fisk (Daredevil)

Runners-up

  1. Iain De Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
  2. Jay Ali (Daredevil)

Wilson Fisk is what makes Daredevil work as a series. Sure, it can stand on its own especially with Cox leading, but it’s in another league when Vincent D’onofrio is involved. D’onofrio brings this certain uneasiness to the character. He’s someone you fear and yet you understand his reasoning. He’s the ultimate foil to Matt Murdock and the series would be nothing without him.

Best Supporting Actress

Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary (Arrow)

Runners-up

  1. Danielle Panabaker (The Flash)
  2. Elizabeth Henstridge (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Juliana Harkavy might be Replaying Black Canary, but she’s nothing like the previous takes on the character (on Arrow at least). Dinah Drake is a character that deserves better. Competing is a strong ensemble cast, Harkavy found a way to stand out from the rest. While her screen time is shorter than the runners-up, she uses the time she has to really shine.

Best Supporting Cast

The Flash

Runners-up

  1. Arrow
  2. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  3. Titans

The Flash has a great cast of characters. Tom Cavanagh, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, and the rest round out a fantastic group.  Even newcomers like Jessica Parker Kennedy and Hartley Sawyer bring a new dimension to the show. The showrunners know how to make sure each one gets their moment to shine.

Best Anime

My Hero Academia

Runners-up

  1. Attack on Titan
  2. Dragon Ball Super
  3. How to Keep a Mummy

Taking our spot for Best Anime is My Hero Academia. This past season of My Hero is the best one yet. As we continue to watch the growth of Izuku Midoryia and friends, villains rise to meet them. The series is a fun, inspirational, and heart-warming romp. Everything you want from a Shonen.

Best Television Series

Daredevil

Runners-up

  1. The Flash
  2. Arrow
  3. Titans
  4. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Daredevil season three is one of the best superhero stories of all-time. Focusing on the battle between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, the show goes back to its roots. One man trying to help his city. Daredevil is everything you need from a television series. The story is strong, the characters are fantastic, the action scenes are the best they’ve ever been, and the show never has a dull moment. If this truly is the last time we see Daredevil, they went out on top.

That brings a close to this year’s WOBAM! Awards. If you haven’t already check out our film awards here. For more on all of these fantastic shows, stay tuned!
