Darkseid Reportedly Won’t Be Introduced In The DC Cinematic Universe Until Second JUSTICE LEAGUE Film

With a Justice League film finally set to be released in 2017 or 2018, there are few details regarding its characters. However, one of the most widely expected ideas was that Darkseid will serve as the main villain. The ruler of Apokolips fought the League in the New 52 “Origins” arc, and he is known as one of the team’s most infamous adversaries. Despite this, if a new report is to be believed, then the wait to see Darkseid on the big screen just got longer.

In an article discussing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Badass Digest‘s Devin Faraci commented on the Eternals, who were created by Jack Kirby, and how they could play into the recently announced sequel. Of course, Kirby is also known for creating Darkseid and the New Gods for DC. In this section, Faraci dropped a very interesting tidbit regarding the potential big screen futures of both groups. “My sources tell me not to expect Darkseid in the DC movieverse until Justice League 2, so that means a Guardians 2 in 2017 would definitely have the Eternals beating the New Gods to big screens.”

So, it sounds like DC may be waiting on Darkseid until the Justice League sequel releases. And since the first film will most likely be a huge smash financially, then another film or two is all but inevitable. The question is, who will fight the League in the first movie if it isn’t Darkseid? Of course, there are a number of options – Brainiac, Doomsday (who is rumored to be appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Sinestro, etc. Another possibility would be to go the “Throne of Atlantis” route and pit the Justice League against Aquaman and/or the forces of Atlantis. Then there are the likes of the Injustice League and Crime Syndicate, but it would be difficult to introduce twice as many characters within one film with little to no build-up.

Personally, I’m leaning towards Brainiac. Superman actor Henry Cavill has expressed his desire to see the villain on the big screen back when he was promoting Man of Steel. Interestingly, much of what Cavill has said he wished to see have come to pass. He expressed interest in a Batman/Superman movie, and we are getting one. He voiced his desire to see Cyborg in the DC Movie Universe, and he’ll be in Batman v Superman and likely Justice League. Cavill also showed interest in adding Doomsday, who, again, is rumored to be in the former movie. So, if they don’t use Brainiac in a Man of Steel sequel, then he would be an ideal choice to antagonize the Justice League. The character would also offer a unique take on the potential alien invasion plot. Of course, this is all speculation.

Who do you wish to see as the villain in the first Justice League movie?
