THE FLASH Cast Discusses the Mystery of the Reverse-Flash

Entertainment Weekly
spent some time with Rick Cosnett and Grant Gustin from The Flash recently.  They
discussed the first season’s biggest mystery; Who is the Reverse Flash?
Truthfully, this mystery is older than the series as Grant
Gustin describes his mother’s murderer as a ball of yellow lightning shaped
like a man during his appearance on Arrow
last season.  He’s appeared twice; first
in the pilot where he murders Nora Allen just as Barry described.  He reappeared in last week’s episode,
“The Flash is Born.”  This
time, he attempted to intimidate Joe West off the Nora Allen murder case.
Executive Producer, Andrew Kreisberg told EW that they are
building towards a confrontation
between Barry and the Reverse Flash.
Series star Grant Gustin confirmed the coming confrontation,
Barry will actually get to come
face to face with him, not just running with him, but standing face to face
with him, looking at him.
”
However, “He’s vibrating, so
he doesn’t know who he is. We don’t see his face. No characters see his face
and the audience doesn’t necessarily see his face either, but Barry gets to
hear him say that he killed his mom.
Gustin’s co-star, Rick Cosnett, play Detective Eddie
Thawne.  Eddie has been one of the prime
candidates to play the Reverse Flash since his character name was announced
because his name is seemingly a play on “Eobard Thawne.”  Eobard was the most well-known villain to
take the mantle of Reverse Flash.
When asked about it, Cosnett was tight-lipped.  But he did say that “It’s exciting. When a character has such a history, you get to bring
all this reality to it and all these layers. I just wanted to make him a human
being, first and foremost. Then, from there, it’s fascinating to see how that
progresses.
Gustin had one other thing to say about the mystery: “I didn’t even remotely see coming what
Andrew Kreisberg told me is going to be one of the turning points with that
storyline… I’ve heard so many theories surrounding Reverse Flash that are all
interesting. I was like, ‘Oh, I know what’s going on,’ but literally no one
knows what’s going on. Anyone who thinks they know what’s going on is wrong.
I’m in the in and I thought I knew, but Andrew told me and I was like, ‘Holy
crap.’
The Reverse Flash confronts The Flash in episode nine,
entitled: “The Man in the Yellow Suit” which airs; December 9th,
2014.
