Henry Cavill Talks BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE And How Long He Wants To Continue Playing Superman
Henry Cavill starred as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, and he reprises the role in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The actor recently appeared at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts award season tea party, and he commented on the 2016 superhero epic in an interview with Daily Mail (via Henry Cavill News; transcription via CBM). Obviously, Cavill is mum on details, but he does have this to say when asked what to expect from Dawn of Justice. “It’s Zack Snyder, so it’s going to be a visual spectacle and it’s cinematic history. We’re doing Batman and we’re doing Superman, and it’s all happening at the same time. So, fingers crossed it turns out to be as exciting as I think it is.” As for whether or not he offered any advice to new Batman Ben Affleck, Cavill says, “We’re talking about Ben Affleck here. I don’t need to give him any advice. The guy’s a legend. He does his own thing! He’s great. He’s fantastic.” And, of course, he refused to confirm which iconic hero will win in their epic fight.
In a separate interview with The Anglophile Channel (via CBM), Cavill was asked about his post-Dawn of Justice future as Superman. He is set to reprise the role in 2017’s Justice League Part One and 2019’s Justice League Part Two, and he will likely play Kal-El again in at least one standalone sequel to Man of Steel. Fortunately, Cavill doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to leave the role, as he hopes to play Superman for many years and movies to come. “I love the character. I love working with Warner Bros. and what they’re doing with it, and so fingers crossed I’ll be able to tell the story for many, many years to come.”
It’s always a good sign when an actor is in no rush to get through a multi-film contract. Cavill’s performance as Superman in Man of Steel was terrific, proving that he is the best choice to bring the larger-than-life character to the big screen. It will be fascinating to see the character’s evolution over the next several years and films.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters March 25th, 2016. The second installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Holly Hunter, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by Chris Terrio.
