CBS’ SUPERGIRL Will Feature Maxwell Lord, Livewire and Reactron
Among the many DC television shows present at Comic-Con last night was CBS’ Supergirl series. There were some new details on that show revealed at the panel, particularly concerning which villains we’ll be seeing this season (hopefully the first of many).
First up, Twilight‘s Peter Facinelli has been cast as Maxwell Lord, who is a hero-turned-villain in the comics. Supergirl‘s version is described as “a green tech billionaire who enjoys a friendly rivalry with Cat Grant and a fascination with National City’s newest arrival — Supergirl.” Lord previously appeared in Smallville, making Supergirl his second live action adaptation. In fact, he was set to be the villain in the unproduced Justice League: Mortal feature film.
Additionally, two other DC villains will appear in the show: Livewire and Reactron. Supergirl marks the live action debut of the latter. Livewire, who also previously appeared in Smallville, was an original character created for Superman: The Animated Series, before making the jump to mainstream comics. No casting for either character was announced.
The Supergirl crew also discussed the casting of Melissa Benoist as the titular heroine. She was the first of “thousands” of women to audition for the role, and she landed it. The same thing happened when Stephen Amell auditioned for Arrow and Grant Gustin for The Flash. Also, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says the series is “heavily” inspired by Richard Donner’s classic Superman films, with the aim to “bring light into the world.”
