The death of Laurel Lance, aka Black Canary, was arguably the most controversial decision made during Arrow‘s fourth season. And in a season that alienated a lot of fans, that says something. Fortunately, this year, the show has been correcting the mistakes made before. This culminated in the midseason finale reveal that Laurel is, somehow, alive and well.
But how is Laurel back? Fan theories have ranged from Earth-2’s Black Siren to Flashpoint to a Lazarus Pit. Now, a spoilery new promo for the next episode of Arrow has offered a big clue towards one of these theories.
So, the latest Arrow promo reveals that the Laurel we saw in the midseason finale is not the same Laurel we know and love. She uses her sonic scream without the Canary Cry device, and it looks like her intentions are more malicious than expected.
Based on this, it’s easy to assume that this Laurel is in fact Black Siren, the Earth-2 doppelganger we met last year on The Flash. Or, at least, she may be another evil doppelganger. Unlike Earth-1’s Laurel, Black Siren is an actual metahuman; one of many recruited by Zoom to attack Central City. Black Siren was eventually locked up in a STAR Labs cell.
The Arrow promo also teases Diggle in prison (again), while District Attorney Chase seems to know about the circumstances surrounding Billy Malone’s death.
Watch the promo below, and stay tuned for more as we have it. Arrow returns with new episodes on Wednesday, January 25th at 8 PM EST on The CW.
