LIGHTS OUT Director in Talks to Helm SHAZAM Movie
New Line Cinema has been developing a Shazam movie for a while now. Dwayne Johnson had been attached to play villain/antihero Black Adam. Earlier this year, it was announced that Johnson’s Black Adam is getting his own movie, and he is no longer expected to appear in Shazam. Nevertheless, it looks like Billy Batson’s first feature film is about to lock down a director.
According to The Wrap, Lights Out director David F. Sandberg is in talks to tackle Shazam. The filmmaker’s next film, New Line’s Annabelle 2, hits theaters in August. It’s unclear how far along negotiations are, but hopefully, a deal will be finalized shortly. Henry Gayden wrote the Shazam script.
With a director likely being hired soon, the next step in pre-production is to cast the film’s characters, including the titular superhero. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
Shazam is scheduled to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019.
