Nicole Kidman Confirms Role in AQUAMAN

A couple months ago, it was reported that Nicole Kidman was in talks to join DC Films’ Aquaman as the hero’s mother. This was the second DC Extended Universe role that she was approached for; she was approached for Wonder Woman, but passed due to scheduling conflicts. However, she is definitely on board for Aquaman.

Kidman has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she is playing Aquaman’s mother, Queen Atlanna. The Oscar winning actress talked about her friendship with director James Wan, as well as how he sold her on this role. “The reason why I love [Aquaman] is James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started. He’s a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna. As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. Because, you’ve got to have some fun.”

Aquaman marks Kidman’s second DC movie role. She previously played Chase Meridian in 1995’s Batman Forever. And now, she’s in the DCEU too. Aquaman will begin production later this spring, so stay tuned for more news as we have it.

Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters December 21st, 2018. This installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Willem Dafoe. James Wan directs from a script by Will Beall.
