GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Passes $300M Domestic, $700M Worldwide This Weekend

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now in its third week of release in North America and fourth week in other countries. The Marvel Studios sequel has been another big moneymaker for the company, holding the #1 spot for two weeks in a row. Well, that changes this weekend…or does it?

This weekend (via THR), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 grossed an estimated $35.1 million domestically. This puts it in second place behind newcomer Alien: Covenant, which grossed $36 million. But considering how close these numbers are, it’s possible that the two movies could switch places when the final figures come in tomorrow. We’ll have to wait and see.

For now, though, Guardians has currently made $301.8 million domestically and $430.8 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $732.6 million. It is currently the eighth biggest MCU movie at the domestic box office and the sixth biggest worldwide. It should surpass the original Guardians and crack the top five for both lists soon.

Stay tuned for more box office updates as we have them.
